Melancholy of Winter

Sonnet

I look outside and watch the rain come down,
As Winter turns the azure sky to gray.
Within this gloom, my spirit seems to drown,
The chattering geese have long since flown away.

A deep despair begins to steal my breath,
I watch the world outside dissolve in rain.
The questions in my soul speak but of death,
As if my heart were bound inside a chain.

The music fades as rain turns into snow,
And I record my sorrow with this pen.
Will I redeem the past? I do not know,
Still haunted by mistakes I made back then.

So winter's melancholy holds its sway,
It takes my hand and leads me on my way.
